Javier Fernández se retira patinando para la afición

Javier Fernández ha llevado el patinaje español a lo más alto. Nos ha hecho soñar con lo imposible, ha cumplido sus objetivos en el deporte y ha ido más allá forjando los cimientos de la cultura de hielo en un país en el que no había antecedentes.

El Europeo de Minsk queda marcado en la historia como la cita en la que mayor ha sido la delegación española, el boom de Javier ha potenciado la visibilidad de este deporte en todas sus disciplinas (individual, parejas y danza)."En las Olimpiadas había mucha presión, así que quise terminar mi carrera aquí", dijo el pasado jueves tras el programa corto.

Una carrera de sacrificios

El talento no lo fue todo para él. En 2008 hizo las maletas para entrenar en Nueva Jersey junto a Morozov, y se clasificó para los Juegos Olímpicos de Vancouver 2010, quedando en un meritorio 14º puesto, además de octavo en el Europeo y duodécimo en el Mundial.

La joven promesa empezaba a despuntar, pero sus mayores éxitos llegarían de la mano de Brian Orser. Las primeras medallas internacionales fueron en el Skate Canada y la Rostelecom Cup, además de la clasificación para la final del Grand Prix. Bicampeón del Mundo en 2015 y 2016,  bronce en el Campeonato del Mundo (2013 y 2014), Campeón de Europa consecutivo desde 2013 hasta 2019 y bronce en los Juegos Olímpicos de Pyeongchang (2018). Su palmarés es infinito, envidiable, prácticamente irrepetible.

En el Toronto Cricket, al que más tarde se han unido Yuzuru Hanyu y recientemente la rusa Evgenia Medvedeva, ha entrenado hasta sus últimos meses en activo, haciendo un parón a mediados de 2018 para volcarse en su show Revolution on ice.

Tres Juegos Olímpicos a sus espaldas

Con tan sólo veintisiete años, Javier es un veterano que ha participado en tres Olimpiadas: Vancouver 2010, Sochi 2014 y Pyeongchang 2018, cumpliendo en esta última cita su ansiado sueño: subir al podio.

Entregado a sus fans

Tuve la oportunidad de conocerle en la final del Grand Prix de Barcelona 2014-2015, donde demostró que su calidad humana está al nivel e incluso supera a su excelencia deportiva. Con los pies en la tierra, la sonrisa siempre se dibujaba en su cara atendiendo a periodistas, voluntarios y grupos interminables de aficionados que se agolpaban a la salida del Centro de Convenciones de la ciudad condal.

Hoy Javier Fernández se aleja de los focos de la competición con una nueva medalla de oro, convirtiéndose en el único patinador siete veces campeón de Europa de manera consecutiva, arropado por el aplauso de quienes le hemos visto crecer en la élite. Seguirá ligado al deporte, puede que se anime a entrenar, está más que confirmado que le veremos en galas, haciendo palpitar al público como sólo él sabe hacer. El talento le ha llevado lejos, pero el sacrificio, la humildad y su corazón le hacen imborrables en la estela de los mejores patinadores internacionales. ¡Gracias por elevarnos a lo más alto, #SúperJavi!

Desfile de maillots en el Grand Prix de Moscú 2018

Abrimos la temporada con el Grand Prix de Moscú la semana pasada, la competición por excelencia en la que gimnastas de todo el mundo estrenan sus nuevos ejercicios. Tras más de cuatro meses de espera para ver las nuevas coreografías y músicas, es normal que estemos contando los días que faltan para volver a ver los montajes y su evolución, los cambios que introducen las entrenadoras y cómo cada vez las gimnastas se sienten más a gusto y en mejor forma. Few are those who choose to wear them, but internationally we are seeing a lot of them lately, as is the case of Russia and Ukraine, which have very thin gymnasts.

Flowers are the main focus if you pretend to have a more ellaborated design, ideal for very stylized gymnasts such as Yana Kudryavtseva or Alina Ermolova. Dina Averina went further with them, wearing a red flower on her shoulder (with a leo inherited from the Estonian gymnast Janika Vartlaan, this next season competing for Ukraine). Other innovations this past season were the amazing painting of a geisha that Katsiaryna Halkina wore for her clubs routine and the surprising change of Dina's skirt in her hoop exercise at Worlds 2017.

Once they listened to the music, they wrote me with their ideas and sketch for the exercise. In my case it was not too long since the design was approved until it was made. It is a purple one with golden flowers on the neck, sleeves and skirt, decorated with swarosvki. Despite being made in Ukraine, it arrived very fast and in perfect conditions, I was so glad I trusted them when I saw the final result.

Time to match leotard with the apparatus

When the leotard is done, the complexity of matching it with the apparatus will depend a lot on whether you compete with clubs, hoop and ribbon (which allow decorating and painting) or ball and rope, which you can buy directly taking into account the shades that fit better your design. In this case it is s a Golden Sasaki ball (from RG Steps), one of the most used this season by international gymnasts such as Salome Pazhava, Marina Durunda or Katsiaryna Halkina.
